Hexennägel

These pictures where made for a different kind of campaing for a goldsmith. She had these finger jewellery called »Hexennägel« and instead of doing the obvious and shoot these on white or any neutral background we wanted to produce somewhat controversal pictures that show the quality and beauty of the pieces yet also play with gloomy fetish imagery.
The shooting went through with some difficulties though since the wheather was overcast by clouds. But not the type that appears dramatic, we basically had a greyish backdrop without any definition or structure.
In order to archive the look I was planing, I developed each picture twice, one with the model being contrasted and lit as good as possible and one whith the background enhanced. Both versions where developed in Lightroom and layered together in Photoshop. The one with the model in focus was layered on top of the other one and the background was roughly blocked out on that one, resulting in a fairly decently developed picture. Sure it is a kind of handmade HDR, but with a completely different approach.
The shooting took place in 2009, back then it was not as common to work this way as it is nowadays.
